Pengolahan limbah Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) menggunakan proses aerasi dalam kolom aerator plat berlubang

Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara penghasil terbesar Crude Palm Oil (CPO) di dunia. Namun industri ini menghasilkan limbah cair yang disebut Mill Effluent (POME) dapat mengakibatkan dampak negatif terhadap lingkungan hidup. Teknologi digunakan untuk mengolah POME pada penelitian adalah Kolom Aerasi Plat Berlubang. Tujuan mengetahui bagaimana pengaruh waktu aerasi kualitas ditinjau dari penurunan kandungan Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Nitrogen Total (N-Total) dan pH dalam POME. Rangkaian alat terdiri Aerator dengan tinggi 100 cm diameter 10 serta kolom aerator dipasang plat berlubang lubang 0,5 jarak masing-masing cm. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan setiap 24 jam selama rentang 6 hari, diukur nilai menggunakan metode elektrometri, pengukuran COD reflux N-Total berdasarkan Kjeldahl. Hasil menunjukkan karakteristik sebelum proses memiliki 5,73 mengandung sangat tinggi, yaitu berturut-turut 1.475,14 mg/L 91,12 melebihi ambang batas baku mutu diizinkan. Kenaikan seiring berjalannya aerasi. Nilai tertinggi terjadi I hari ke-5, 7,47. Semakin lama aerasi, maka akan semakin menurun, II ke-6, sebesar 37,58 persentase 97,45%. Penurunan 0,42 99,54%.
